News flash! Anna Kaplan wins election for State Senate with 55% of the vote!
My reasons for seeking to become a New York State Senator begin where I begin--with a journey from fear and persecution to a place of safety and freedom. It’s the most American of stories but the story’s beginning as a frightened, powerless minority animates everything I do. And my undying gratitude to this great country for taking me in during my most desperate hour is what compels me to public service.
Throughout my two terms as Councilwoman, I have pursued a vision I call “All of Us Together.” That’s a goal of bringing all the diverse groups in North Hempstead together and responding to the hate and prejudice that has swept this country with strength and unity. I do that with a simple message—everyone matters, everyone should be treated with respect and everyone should have a voice in how they're governed. That's All of Us Together.
That is why I am running for State Senate. I am committing to listening to you, to work in a collaborative way with constituents and to stand up to anyone who wants to bring hate to the place I call home.
Since 2011, Republicans have controlled the State Senate and they have used that control for one thing only—to stymie change and to block reform. Most frustrating of all, bills that are broadly supported in this District like common sense gun reform, protecting child victims of sexual abuse, early voting and meaningful campaign finance reform never reach the Senate floor for a vote.
It’s all part of a deal between big business and some State Senators to make sure the wealthy and connected get theirs and ordinary hardworking New Yorkers get whatever’s left over.
This District deserves better!
This District deserves a State Senator that hears them, instead of the hedge fund managers. This District deserves a State Senator that hears the concerns of its residents about maintaining the local tax cap, enacting stronger gun laws, and protecting our water and air.
I have heard you and I will fight for you, the hardworking families of Long Island, and together--all together--we will win!
ALL OF US TOGETHER TO ALBANY!
